SMC - been selling their stuff on and off since I was a teenager...

My mom bought into SMC when I was in High School - that was back in the 70's. I sold wood roses, long stem and pins on Feb 14 and Sweetheart day. Sold Mother's day items, Father's day items, gifts of all kinds. From oriental gifts, to crystal, jewelry and consumables, in HS I was the one with the connections. Made out fairly well doing it too. Saved up enough funds to get myself a silver moped to help out in my other business endevors.

In the 80's my mom turned her membership over to me so that I could try to make a business out of it. Though I'd already done fairly well doing it on my own already. The best part of selling to other students was the fact all I had to do was show up with a catalog, the item samples and the orders flew in. Overhead was zilch and I had plenty of help bringing in the boxes to pass out orders. Cash up front was always the rule. As an adult, things got more complicated.

I did fairly well, I had a small thrift shop that I stocked with some items, but mostly I had donated things. But the SMC stuff did bring people in when I put stuff in the window display area. But overhead was high and I really wasn't into pushing sales.
I eventually sold the business to a friend who'd been helping me. She got her own SMC membership and took over the business. She was a sales person...and a good one.

Later in the 90's I got in with a tech pal that helped me to get a system hooked up online. My first online business. I had other people who wanted their own business send me $10 for the business kit. (I had to pay the cost for the kit and the shipping from that.)
They would be free to sell the products any way they wanted. They were distributors - getting near my cost for the products.
They could in turn hire party hostesses who would get a cut of the profits made by the distributors.

Me, I would get emails telling me what to order and after making sure that everything was filled out right - I'd have them deposit the funds into my bank branch. (lucky they were nationwide) After confirming the deposit, I would order the items, pay with my credit card and have it shipped to them. They would get the orders to their hostesses or clients on their own.

That worked out for a while and then I sold the whole thing to my tech pal who'd gotten a membership with SMC so he could take over. He was another sales person who was good at the job.

But then after a big move, I didn't do too much more with the whole SMC thing. I kept my membership, but didn't do much with it.

I noticed in early 2000 that eBay was flooded with SMC products and that most were taking a loss on sales. So I decided against joining them and just used the catalogs to allow friends and family to purchase at cost to help extend their limited funds.

Few pals even ordered flea market items from me so that they could start up or add to their business marketing stock. I got a little profit off of the sales, but not much.

I guess I'm not much of a sales person, I love finding bargains and buying wholesale whenever I can. But I've never been one to want to hard sell or pitch to people.

Some told me that I didn't charge enough for my websites, which is why I didn't make it through the economic storm that hit. I often wondered how other designers got thousands for jobs, while I got a lot less and did more work.

I was thinking of putting up a website to offer the SMC products to those that wanted to buy them. To make a membership site that charged only a few dollars to have access to all the items. I figured that some people would be able to make a business out of it.

Of course the only reason for the membership fee would be to pay for the hosting. I can't seem to find a way to set up a database on my free hosting acct. - my provider expects me to pay up front first.

So I'm going to mull it over, see if I can find anyone that can help me with setting it up while I see if anyone would be interested in the idea.

I'm already trying to get up funds up for my daughter's hosting, the food/recipe site that I'll be setting up for her needs a database too. So I need to be sure that that will be paid, so I'm trying to set that up as a membership site too.

Well, that's all I've got for now. If anyone is interested in the sort of product that SMC has then click on this link.

http://viewecatalog.siteforshop.com/catalog_select.asp

If anyone is interested in getting anything let me know. I'm able to check availability, cost and unit packaging. I can also work through paypal or alertpay. SMC does dropshipping so that's not a problem.

If anyone knows of some freelance work online let me know, still need to cover as many possible opportunities as possible to keep afloat.

Don't ever put your hopes on the eggs in just one basket. Make sure you have as many baskets as you can filling with eggs...lol you never know when one might stop being productive. Take care and good luck

Hope this is of some use to anyone that might find it useful.

I found a job

I started working for AVON as a e-Representative. For only 10.00 I received almost 100 books for up to 3 campaigns, a tote, order forms, and credit card request forms. I also received a 100.00 credit limit. Which considering my poor credit is very good. I look forward to making my first sells and starting my first fundraising event. If you would like more information on becoming an AVON e-Rep or customer, contact me. Or visit my e-store: www.youravon.com/ereed5261 Shop, Share and Save.

Have a safe and blessed New Year!!!

Hello, my name is Emily.  I am a 23 year old recent college graduate (BA).  My story begins a year ago, when I fresh out of college with a full set of dreams on my shoulders.  My family used to always say you can do anything you want, be anything you want.  I can barely see those words in my head anymore.  Right out of college I got a job.  I was finally on my way, got a little apartment, I felt like I could really make it.  Six months later I came to work, to find I didn't have a job.  We were going to suddenly close the doors, due to the rough economy.  This is when I confidently began my job search, thinking that this was happening for a reason, and my true dream career was an interview away!  Well about 10 interviews and 3 months later I can barely keep my head from drowning.  I spend my days applying for jobs, and my nights searching for more.  I have sold most of what I own.  I don't shop, don't fill my self in Frappachinos, can't remember the last time I walked into a restaurant to eat and not just give my application.  I don't understand, I'm frustrated, depressed.  I think this mood of mine is a common reality in the USA today.

I'm at the point right now where my rent is due in a week and I have no idea where it is going to come from. I have utility bills, car insurance, a credit card bill (they are not very happy with me), and food and gas.  I am at the end of my rope!

PLEASE HELP MY FAMILY

Daughter of an Alcoholic Father in desperate need of help. My name is Rachel. I'm 31, the oldest child of three. My Father has been an alcoholic for as long as I can remember, a good man with a horrible disease. He worked hard through the years the provide for us, making up for his absence by trying to give his family a good life. After years of "controlled" drinking and being able to hide his addiction from most, the insanity took control, the man who was once a functioning alcoholic became lost to the world and became consumed by the bottle. We lost everything, a family business, our home the list goes on and desperation set in. the impact of loss was so great on my Father that he found his way to Alcoholics Anonymous. The program was a gift to him and to our family, my Father got sober we began to pick up the pieces and in December of 2006 he celebrated 5 years of sobriety. Those five years will forever be cherished as it was the first time in my life that I was able to have a relationship with my Father and begin to understand his disease.

On June 14, 2007 my Mother received a phone call that my Father had relapsed, attempted suicide and was in the hospital. As you can imagine this was devastating to our family, especially my 14 year old brother, Christopher. We had no clue that the insanity of the disease had returned and that my Father was in such a desperate state. Since then many things have come to the surface and we again find ourselves in a desperate time. My mother works for a meager salary three days a week at a Bed and Breakfast. She is trying so hard to take care of my brother and pick of the pieces. My Father left a trail of destruction that we never saw coming. Several bad business deals, lie after lie about everything. In his absence my Mother found that her financial situation was not as he has presented it to her and the family as a whole. Always wanting to be the provider he couldn't bare to let us know that he had again lost a business and there was no money. He was robbing peter to pay paul and it caught up, leaving my Mother with nothing. She will loose her home the end of July, all the bills are behind, and there is no money and no one to help. I have a good job but work for ten dollars an hour. I have a small condo and no means to give them the help they need, I do what I can but that has left me behind with my financial obligations.

I would like to ask for help to get them moved and into a small comfortable home so that they can begin to rebuild without my Father. My brother starts high school this year and deserves a chance to be a child without all the worries of financial instability. I hope that someone full of compassion and understanding for the disease of alcoholism reads this and can help. I will make any arrangements necessary for formal agreement of repayment. I appreciate your consideration.  Rachel

Investor needed for vacation ownership/travelclub sales & marketing company

I am looking to open a vacation ownership/ travel club re-sales marketing and sales office. I have been working successfully in the travel industry for the last decade. On average I, personally, sell over one hundred thousand dollars a month and there is a huge profit some where around 40%+. I began to open an office in the Newport RI area with the intention to market for one of the larger companies but they are having management problems so I decided to go it alone. I have an office completely built out and remodeled ready to do business, I purchased a shelf corporation and opened a business account. The only thing I am lacking is working capital. I am seeking an investor who is interested in a fast return on their money. I am willing to pay a 50% return, completely paid within 18 months. I am open to other terms like a residual or a seat on the board plus a salary. All investments will be secured by corporate common stock and an interest in all company assets ie. Furniture, computers, company vehicles etc.. I have a complete business plan along with a time line and would welcome any potential investors to visit my office and look over my plan. Like I stated, I've been in the business for a long time and have made a lot of money for big companies like Wyndham/Fairfield, Sunterra, InnSeasons etc. I am a successful, knowledgeable, top closer, and I'm ready to make the real money these big guys make.

Its not the money, its the willingness to help others in need!:)

I have to say, I have worked my entire life and still plan on doing so, but unfortunately I live in a "right to fire" state and because I was low man ...or woman, on the totem pole, I was released. I'm not sure how this whole thing works, but I know that I have done quite a few good deeds over the years and am just hoping that at this time a few of them come back to me. I have to say, as soon as I get back up on my feet, I am...off of here!! Thanks to all of you who have even taken the time to read this and I wish everyone all the best!!
